The Botanical Guardians of Berlin

In the heart of Berlin, the Botanical Garden serves as an unexpected sanctuary for three distinct families of urban foxes.

This series captures the delicate balance of coexistence within this unique habitat, where wildlife has adapted to human presence without surrendering their wild essence.

The project began as a visual study of these creatures but evolved into a narrative about vulnerability and care.

Through conversations with a local resident who visits the families daily, I learned of a silent threat: a contagious disease affecting one specific fox. This individual’s isolation, unable to approach humans due to illness, stands in stark contrast to the trust exhibited by the rest of the pack. The resident’s dedication to tracking the spread of the disease to ensure veterinary intervention highlights a profound truth: empathy often lives in the quiet, consistent actions of individuals who refuse to look away.

Shot with the Sony Alpha 7C, these images aim to reveal the dignity of urban wildlife and the invisible bonds between species. They are a testament to the fragility of health within a community and a reminder that preserving life often requires us to notice the one who stands apart.
